HOLYOKE, Mass. -- On Thursday, April 16, supporters of YouthBuild Holyoke/Nueva Esperanza, Girls Inc., CareerPoint, Nuestras Raices, Neari Jumpstart, and Upward Bound attended a reception at Holyoke High School in honor of Earl W. Stafford and local donors. The Stafford Foundation and local supporters from Holyoke helped send 16 Holyoke Youth to Obama's inauguration in Washington, D.C. this January.
The Stafford Foundation's generosity and People's Inaugural Project allowed the youth to enjoy three nights of luxury accommodations at the JW Marriot on Pennsylvania Avenue; a Prayer Breakfast; a Martin Luther King, Jr. luncheon; and an Inaugural Youth Ball. Local donors provided funding for transportation, meals, and formal wear for the events.
People enjoyed food from Fernandez Family Restaurant, listened to music, and heard speeches from board members, local councilmembers, students who attended the trip, and Earl Stafford himself. Above is the video projected at the event, made with footage taken by the students themselves on the trip.
